ARMENIA – I love being present in these updates!

ARMENIA – (Spitak) House of Esther Refugee Center

I love being present and on-the-ground in an update such as this!  These people are absolutely wonderful … these refugees who have been through so much pain, are life-giving yet again!

Great pleasure is mine in being here in Spitak, ARMENIA, House of Esther(HoE) … and in relating to you these refugees from war-torn Syria.  It’s difficult to communicate their gratefulness in our presence and our meager gifts of time, teaching and relationships deepened.  A warmer audience one will not find.

Each has a story of great loss of homes, family members, friends, neighbors.

Since my time here last year, chicken coops have been expanded, a fish farm started, gardens enlarged, fruit trees planted, volunteers recruited, furniture and appliances delivered, buildings insulated, and many other living conditions improved.  Deeper yet is the foundation of “HOPE” they now have, in a secure location free from war-tensions and greater losses.

A primary focus has been in the teaching of TCD-Transformational Community Development.  While I usually teach such courses in villager-settings, this material is adaptable to HoE and refugees starting lives over.  Our aim in HoE is for it to become as self-sustaining as is possible.

House of Esther – Spitak, Armenia … there … !

House of Esther – Spitak, Armenia

It’s truly a beauty to behold, when one sees one person, impassioned, committed to a task at hand, accomplish so much in 5 short weeks of their “vacation” time!  Please witness this man and his accomplishments … Vince Melkonian.

HoE – House of Esther, in Spitak, Armenia is a future home of transition, healing, and wholeness for refugees out of Syria and other needful locations.  Seeing that TCD-Transformational Community Development can happen in this setting, Vince is focused on allowing GHNI to serve alongside he and others, as they help some of the neediest people of Armenian decent, displaced in war-torn locations.

To accomplish this, much logistics have to happen in short order, especially as winter is fast approaching this higher elevation locale.

Pig pens were built.  Chicken coops were built. Manure, top-soil and fertilizer were brought in for establishing fields of farming.  Green-houses were established.  Crops planted in early Spring were harvested.  Dorms for refugees were configured.  Vision seminars for TCD were taught to those living there and locals.   Relationships between organizations were further secured, as UNHCR-Armenia, GHNI, ALEPPO org., and others came together to commit to this special place.

Further help is needed in finances, as we secure a manager for, and make all provisions needful for full-fledged self-sustainability or HoE.  Will you please consider these needs and all we all seek to accomplish here.   It’s a great semi-rural location for vetted refugees to re-establish life and become healthy again.   Donations can be made at:   https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/ghni-AM-House-of-Esther?code=Refugees%20in%20the%20Middle%20East%20Webpage

Dhokerjhara-selling his vegetables abundant
Manik … Dhokerjhara-selling his vegetables abundant

Fresh reports “semi-edited” from source …

It’s a remarkable sign of transformation when we see something happening by itself, which we have been trying to accomplish a long time. This was so surprising as I saw two persons of our village doing business which is out of the tradition(Santal).

He is Manik. He said, “In starting it was difficult for me to chose which vegetables should I grow to make profit, because vegetables like tomato and leafy vegetables are profitable, but cannot be preserved for a long time, that’s why I started growing vegetables which can be preserved for long time like, potato, onion etc. Now I have experience to grow in large scale”. He thanks GHNI team for helping him recognize his potential.

I also found other man, Bablu, selling spicy chickpeas during sports day in our village. These are signs which shows us that whatever vision we are putting in our villagers mind for them to grow their lifestyle it has started working and they are making it true.  (Babujan)

Rupam – Hooghly Village Computer Centre

Rupam, is 14, in 8th grade.

His father is a carpenter and mother a house wife. Rupam’s parents did not study much so it is their desire to educate him.  They know computer knowledge is as important as the regular education. His father asked if I could educate his son in our new GHNI computer center.

Rupam said, “I know how important the computer education is, and there are lot of poor students who cannot afford computer education. In future I would like to teach computer to other kids, those who cannot afford  for their computer course.”  (Sushil)

Jatapara Village goats ...
Jatapara Village goats …

This was a blessed month for villagers and a milestone for us.  With the help of GHNI, we distributed 36 goats to the villagers to make them self sustain and make them able to see the dream for their better future.

Like this family there are many families who have got so much of help with this initiative. We are so much thankful for GHNI and all who raised their hands for helping us with their effort and resources.

There is a tradition in Santal people that they never save the money for their future need, instead of that they prefer to take loan from others when they are in need, which cause them trapped by the money landers sometime. But this initiative of animal husbandry will make their mind to save their property in the form of animal which would be used in their need in future.  (Manu)

Serbia “Up And Running”!

Serbia is “up-and-running”!

With news last month that Serbia and Albania were in the queue to begin TCD very soon, hopes ran high. Serbia now has financial sponsorship for its first half of 2016 for Transformational Community Development(TCD) for one impoverished village. We are so excited to see how quickly at years-end “11th-hour” this took place.

With a new TCD project active, associates on the ground are laboring, and just a few days ago our new Serbia GHNI donations site kicked off! National, Snezana is eager to step into 2016, having already started a “type” TCD in the context of her work in the area. Consider undergirding Snezana’s efforts there, as she is the primary relationship amidst this new village and surrounding cluster villages. She has been working in over 20 Roma villages for some years now, laying crucial ground work for what’s ahead. I’m(Daniel) in India(and possibly another S. Asia country) next month, and planning to be in Serbia very early in 2016.

We are grateful for another year of 2015 in serving alongside you as we continue to expand self-sustainability in Eastern Europe and South Asia. It is truly a privilege to be a part of what you and we are accomplishing together!

As you may not realize, we must also raise all funds both for these and all TCD endeavors, as well as our own personal financial base in order to continue being able to start and have oversight of all these projects. Helping to fund our personal base account allows us to travel and continue meeting all State-side endeavors so vital to fulfilling our work overseas. As we are running a personal deficit in our GHNI account, please consider us in these last few days of 2015, giving this also a true need. This is accomplished on-line at:

We the Emig family and GHNI thank you deeply as we so quickly peer into 2016 and all we seek to accomplish for good in Help and Hope for the Hidden and Hurting!

Thank you, truly!

Nepal – DR … to TCD !

Little boy & bag (village help) - Nepal
Little boy & bag (village help) – Nepal

GHNI-Nepal is wholly committed to TCD-Transformational Community Development. Disaster Relief, in the mean time, has consumed all our energies and resources to date since the earthquakes. We are still in the throws of disaster relief right now.

The majority of our income-donations for Nepal continues to be requested and focused on DR. Vast numbers of villages are still in need of DR help from so many sources, and we are helping in every conceivable way we can in GHNI.

Winter is coming quick, and shelter from the elements is essential to all remote villages. So we continue disaster relief.

Yet … yet, GHNI is not primarily a DR agent. So as soon as we can see the “light-of-day” from DR … we are transitioning in TCD! Thanks for being so faithful in helping us in this hoped-for transition coming soon in Nepal. It’s our heart to provide self-sustainability as quickly as possible … !

Bangladesh … our newest country!

Our road and path to the new village ...
Our road and path to the new village …

Bangladesh … our newest country, village, water well, leadership development, and friends!

One of the greatest joys of any people working together in a common cause is to see an extension of their common efforts and quality labors together. Bangladesh is our newest example of this. With over a year in preparation, ground work, and relating to other organizations and leaders, we have now in February celebrated GHNI’s newest venture into what was once called “East Pakistan”(Bangladesh).

Water, clean drinkable water was the urgent need in this village, a couple of hours from the capital city of Dhaka. The villagers were ecstatic that we, together with them, were able to provide this new well. Celebrations are never a small endeavor in any village now having clean water. And they showered the visiting team with much in ceremonial thanks and words of gratefulness.

New well equals clean drinking water!

Because of your generosity and willingness to give, our efforts together(with you) have opened up Bangladesh in new and self-sustainable ways! The celebration we experienced there … was for YOU also!
Thanks! Dan

PROJECT Dhokar Jhara Village (near Dumka)

Irrigation Project with Basam Marandi
Irrigation Project with Basam Marandi

Monthly reporting is integral to to our work. It is so exciting to see a 2nd generation(really a 3rd!) of envisioned TCD implementors. This recent report is word-for-word from our leadership in India and exhibits the nature of what GHNI is about. Enjoy!

The GHNI-India team is working really hard with the villagers in Dhokar Jhara and want to share their progress.

Caught the Vision!

Bosam Marandi is no more the same. He has caught the vision of TCD and he has become the model for the whole village. He grew up here. When he was very young, his father died and he being the elder son, had to take care of his family. In order for him to provide for the family, he had to go out of the village for months at a time for work. Of course this is the same case with many many other people here. This happens because of the growing season. After the growing season is over, men leave their families and go out in search for work. This is effects the education of the children and many other areas of life.

TCD is encouraging people not to go out of the village and teaching them how to grow their income while they stay in the village. Growing a second crop is one of the ways. Yet Bosam Marandi has gone one step further. Along with growing second crop, he is also doing multiple work to grow his income and has become a model for others.

Thank you for helping to change the world…

One person at a time!
